Giles Peterson Awards @ Cargo

A regular fixture in the Hobnob diary, until a few years back when I realised that everyone was too cool or connected within the music biz to have fun. Still, it’s a great opportunity to see great music.

Just wish Mr Peterson would find a new venue for his awards, as all my breadbins shy away from cargo and it’s sweatbox factory chicken style dancefloor. Why not Scala G?

LIVE: JAZZANOVA + ROBERT MITCHELL TRIO + DORIAN CONCEPT + QUIET VILLAGE + MAMA MILK + STACY EPPS + JONATHAN JEREMIAH + KUMAR

DJS: GILLES PETERSON + TRUTH & SOUL + RED RACK EM + THE BPM

My friend Cathy O (who runs Anorak the happy magazine for Kids) sent me an invite to this, so it’d be rude not to.

It’s gotta be worth a shifty. Generally I pop across to a few Christmas markets to snaffle some art goodness to fill santa’s sack (for me usually).

Mr Beasley “Right As Rain” Single Launch, Vibe Bar, Brick Lane

Date: 14/11/2008 Date: 20:00

I proper love Mr Beasley.
Beasley are a bit like Goldfrapp before they went frappy. Solid Biscuit bass with some folky sexual singing. You can DOBO* and you can dribble.
Soak in the vocals or pogo to the Beasley beats. It’s Right as Rain for Mr Beasley, as their new single title suggests.

Shame they were shunted away in the loft of Vibe bar though. Still, they totally nailed it. There was a good crowd; some ravey monsters (myself included), plus a few record label cheiftains policing the reaction. On the whole people got down and had some Friday fun.

From the pre-gig banter, we all agreed we’d seen the start of something special.
A band with lots of ideas, positivity, and more importantly a good sound to keep us happy as barry.I for one will be purchasing the new Mr Beasley Album, as I’m pretty sure it won’t be on bitorrent.
Total and proper.
